Lawrence Harlan Sweet – 89, of South Alton, Kings County, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by family. Born in Blue Mountain, Kings County, he was a son of the late Charles and Bertha (Joudrey) Sweet.

Lawrence served in the Canadian Armed Forces with the P.P.C.L.I. He worked hard his entire life, following his military career, he was employed as a mason for 20 years. He enjoyed playing cards and listening to country music. He was an avid hobby farmer and ox teamster until his final years, enjoying exhibitions far and wide.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou (Durling) Sweet; sons, Richard and Peter, both of South Alton; daughter Kathy (Peter) Barthe, Blue Mountain; granddaughters, Victoria (Garth) Davis, Kentville, Leslie Barthe (Jeremy Neale), Kentville, Jessica and Samantha Sweet, both of South Alton; sisters, Gayle Mueller, PEI, and Janet (Bob) White, Hammonds Plains; brother-in-law, Donnie Spencer, South Alton.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his brother, Albert; infant brother, James; and sisters, Alice and Lois.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. There will be a celebration of life from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2023, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A private family burial will take place in the Blue Mountain Cemetery.

Donations in memory may be made to the Blue Mountain Cemetery, Alzheimer’s Society, Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
