John Joseph Archille Corriveau; professional solider, heavy equipment operator, local school bus driver, loving husband and father, led a full and joyful life. For all that he had built and accomplished, he had such humble small town beginnings. Born in Penetanguishene, Ontario, on June 18, 1956, the world was not ready for the laughter to come.

As a boy, John came from a French background, the youngest of three sisters. He, would move around a lot and had many fond memories growing up. Throughout his journeys, John ended up in Newfoundland, and this was where his heart landed. He loved the east coast and knew a lot of ‘newfie tunes’ and he might not have ever left if it wasn’t for him joining the Royal Canadian Armed Forces in 1974. From here he would take a military posting to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to begin a new chapter in his life, where he met the love of his life, Phyllis Corriveau (Conn), a serving member herself as a medic in the Army reserves at the time. John and Phyllis were married July 30, 1977 and posted shortly after to Petawawa Ontario. He would go on to travel the world as a soldier, working his way up through the ranks, becoming the elite of the elite; an Airborne Paratrooper and serving in Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI). His service included two United Nations Peace Keeping tours to Cyprus, and one tour to Croatia, various recruiting trips to Canada’s northern arctic and traveling to France to represent Canada in allied operations; all while building a family. John had his first daughter, Jeannette in 1979, an “Airborne baby” in Petawawa. Shortly after, his wife became a registered nurse in 1983 and they went on to have a son, John Jr. whom he named after himself in order to carry on his name, in 1985.

John retired from the military as a Warrant Officer in 2009 and continued to serve others as one of Kamloops most beloved school bus drivers for the Kamloops School District 73. The kids loved all his funny ways and he would easily get recognized by them wherever he went. Up until his sudden passing, John spent his summers at his vacation spot at Scotch Creek, on the Shuswap Lake. He also enjoyed bike rides on his Road King Classic – Harley Davidson, alongside his comrades, attending army reunions, BC Lion football games, and even at one time being part of an Airborne Veteran motorcycle club.

As a family man, a father, and a natural born leader, John would pave the way for his family’s future, guiding his children through the easy and the hard times, he was always there to listen, to help, to offer sound advice in moments of need, not just for his family, but for others as well. He led a full life and saying he will be greatly missed by all, is an understatement.

Memorial Service will be held on December 15, 2023 at 11:00 am at Kamloops Full Gospel with Pastor Carey de Jong officiating. Private interment to follow at the Hillside Cemetery.
