We are sad to announce that Clark Beatty, loving husband, father, brother, and son, passed peacefully just as the sun was going down on the last day of the year. Clark is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Julianne, his brother D’Arcy Beatty of Kelowna and sister Nancy Beatty of West Vancouver, sister-in-law Judy Dahm of Calgary, brother and sister-in-law John Dahm and Janet Grabner of East Coulee, and Valeen Chow of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Clark was predeceased by his infant daughter, and father Ralph Beatty, and mother Yvonne Beatty.

Clark led an extraordinary life. He was a lifelong learner and teacher. He tutored his fellow students at Sydney Academy, joined the army and learned how to be a good soldier, learned how to fly a plane, earned a black belt in karate and was an accomplished black belt instructor. He became a journeyman carpenter, a master hunter and marksman, an accomplished woodworker and log house builder and ultimately, he became an excellent teacher. He earned a B. Ed from the University of Alberta and taught building construction at Lord Beaverbrook High School for 24 years. After he retired, he went on to teach at the Engineering Department, at Mount Royal University for 9 years.

Clark most loved his family. He was so proud of his daughter Julianne. She had his heart from the first moment he saw her. He was a family man and a home body, happy when he was making a special family dinner (usually Clark’s famous BBQ ribs). He loved all animals and was most happy when the family bunny was around him or when he could watch deer in the backyard.

Clark was very proud of his military service in the Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry. He joined the army as an 18-year-old, travelling across Canada and landing in Edmonton on a freezing cold winter day. He remained a loyal and proud PPCLI member throughout his whole life. He was also an inveterate reader and student of history. He would always supplement any war or history documentary with the real background information.

We would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and health care workers who supported and cared for Clark throughout his illness. Special thanks to Dr. Andrew Sommerville, Dr. E. DeBru, Dr. Richard Lee-Ying, Dr. Marc Kerba, and Dr. Norman Monkman.

We shall miss him terribly and we know he is now Flying High!

A private family service will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Clark’s family here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of your choice, the Calgary Humane Society, the Calgary Veterans Association Food Bank, or the Canadian Cancer Society.

In living memory of Clark Beatty, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
