Corporal Charles Gordon Kennington (IIPPCLI Ret’d)

With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to Charles. He passed peacefully away on December 1st, at the age of 61, with the love of his life by his side. He leaves behind with precious memories his loving wife Dawn, his children Chana (Ph’razer), Charlynn (Hannah), Chad and Spencer. Stepchildren Sabrina (Brandon), Kai (Megan), and Herb. Predeceased by his parents; Charles Leavis and Norma Jean Kennington (Jay) and baby sister Chana Margaret. Parents in law; George and Judy Delaney. Special friends Joey, Tanya, Rose, Carolyn and Barry. As well as numerous extended family and friends.

If you ever had the chance to know Charles, you’d know that when he cared about you, he cared hard. His ability to care for and nurture others created a tapestry of love and warmth. He constantly strived to create a “feel good” atmosphere. He always would say “mi casa es su casa” and truly mean it. His love for good food enriched our bodies and his love for good music was a melody that echoed throughout the chapters of his life. Though his journey was not always easy, he displayed marked perseverance despite navigating through complex, overarching shadows of trauma. Though he faced battles, we choose to honor the entirety of his rich and complex life and reflect on the love he held in his heart. In the face of adversity, he did the best that he could, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him. He loved friends like family. He reminded us to enjoy the finer things in life. He often spoke up in the face of injustice, reminding us of the power of an open mind and treating others with kindness, compassion and equality. As a member of the Special Armed Forces, he was proud to have served his country so bravely, and even in his retirement, he was incredibly dedicated to his country.

May we remember him for the resilient soul he was. For the obstacles he faced and overcame. For the unwavering love he showed us. We love you. May your spirit find eternal peace.

Cremation has taken place. Celebration of life to follow at a later date.
