With heavy hearts, we announce that Bernard Moosbauer passed away last week in Winnipeg, MB. at the age of 59 years.

He is survived by his partner of eight years, Kathy, his mother Liselotte, brother Michael, sister Kathy, brother-in law Gerry, sister-in-law Namhee, along with nieces Shayla, Alliyah, Danica, and nephews Jaehwan and Damien.

Bernard grew up in the neighborhood Windsor Park where he shined in high school volleyball and community football. Throughout his life, he travelled both ends of Canada and eventually Europe either with the military or by doing youth community volunteering through Katimavik. When back in Winnipeg, he loved taking his brother to movies and attending concerts. He enjoyed discussing philosophy for hours with his mother or talking about military history with his father. He loved playing the trumpet where he also excelled in high school bands, the youth cadets, and eventually in his military career.

Bernard’s attraction to the military resulted in joining the Canadian Armed Forces through Minto Armories that progressed to full-time service. He was involved in two military tours; his greatest success was as a Peacekeeper in Croatia. On leave, he visited his entire family in Germany, which was one of many examples about his care and thoughtfulness toward others. Upon retiring from the military with distinction, Bernard attended the University of Manitoba Faculty of Fine Arts. Being already an educated graphic designer and skilled in framing art, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree with honours distinction. He spent the rest of his life devoted to the education on fine art.

The Moosbauer family kindly requests that you take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Cremation has taken place.

Bernard’s Funeral will take place at 11am on Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. Bernadette’s Parish (820 Cottonwood Road) with a reception and a burial to follow at 1:30pm. For those who still want to mingle and connect, there will be an informal Celebration of Bernard’s Life which will take place after the burial.
