Sharle Edward (Chink) Widenmaier was born in Carnduff, Saskatchewan on January 27, 1943. After a long and courageous battle with a chronic illness, Ed tragically passed on 6 July 2024 at the monumental age of 81 in Saanichton, BC. Ed bravely served in the Canadian Forces Regiments, The QOR Of C & PPCLI for 23 years, retiring as a Warrant Officer. Ed was most empowered by becoming a US Army Ranger, Reconnaissance Patrolman, by being one of the founders of Canada’s Mountain Operations Instructors cadre. Ed was an accomplished mountaineer and traveled the world on various expeditions, undertaking many vast and enthralling adventures. Ed also served in the Corp Of Commissionaires for 22 years. Following his retirement, Ed was actively involved in several Peacekeepers Associations and charitable foundations assisting humanity worldwide. Ed was also an avid outdoorsman, as he thoroughly enjoyed hunting and trekking. Owning and working on classic Cadillacs was one of Ed’s favorite pastimes enjoying countless hours at car shows with his many friends. Gardening also provided Ed hours of joy as well. Ed was married to his beloved wife Hazel for 59 years and is survived by his children Rein, Charles, Cary, his daughter-in-law Yadzia and his grandchildren Olivia, Samantha, Aaron and Grayson. Ed is pre-deceased by his parents Mona and Albert, his fellow serviceman brother Donald and daughter-in-law Christina. Ed is further survived by his brothers Lloyd, Barry, Dennis, Rick, his sister Wendy, and their spouses and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed and Hazel traveled the world together on a mission to lead a life well lived, as an example for others to emulate and further expand upon.

Ed will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his country, his pioneering spirit, and the upmost, cherished deep love he had for his family and colleagues. He leaves behind an astonishing legacy of service and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew him, for generations to come.

A celebration of life will be arranged at a future date.
