It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Russell George Randall, peacefully at home with his family by his side.
George was born in Moncton, N.B on 17, June 1937, to Russell and Beulah (Murray) Randall. Predeceased by grandmother, Auta Murray, sister, Joyce, and Brother- in- Law, Earl Seymour, sister, Olive Randall, and sister-in-Law, Betty (Peter) Randall
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara (Rogers) Randall. Daughter, Christina (Kevin) McKinnon, Ronald Randall, grandson, Justin McKinnon (Angela) all of Nanaimo. Grandson, Calvin (Bently) Randall, granddaughter, Rachel Randall of Winnipeg. Great-grandsons, Corbin and Lucas McKinnon of Nanaimo, brother, Peter Randall of Mirimichi, N.B, and his dogs, Jackie and Ginger.
George retired from the military in 1989, after 35 years of service in the infantry. 2 nd Canadian Guards, 3 Princess Patricia Light Infantry and associate member of 2nd Queen’s Own Rifles Victoria branch. A member of Royal Canadian Legion branch 257. His service included tours of Germany and Cypress. He lived in Petawawa Ontario, Corner Brook NFLD, Victoria and Nanaimo BC.
George was the life of the party, quick witted, and generous. George was a participant not an onlooker. While in Petwawa he played hockey for 2 nd battalion Guards as goaltender. He won the Vezna trophy one year. While in Newfoundland he ran the Summer Student Employment Program as well as worked with the local reserves. In Germany he married his wife Barbara. They toured many European countries. Returning back to Petawawa. Following his military career he assisted his wife in the care of several Special Need Adults. Several months a year were spent camping on Vancouver Island, with all the family. He had several cruises under his belt.
He rode a camel in Saudi Arabia, an elephant in Thailand Para, sailed in Hawaii and rode a mechanical Bull in Texas. He interacted with the locals in Cambodia in the rice fields and in Thailand in the corn fields. He left notes at the Wailing Wall. George loved to travel and made friends wherever he went. Poker games on Friday night with the family were a highlight of life in later years.
George leaves many fond memories for family and friends from Canada and around the world.
Many thanks to the Palliative/Home care team, Doctor Towers, Dr. Semproni, Home IV nurses Dr. Putter and Doctors and Nurses at the Nanaimo Hospital for their wonderful care.
Celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 257. 7227 Lantzville Road, Lantzville on 23 September 2024 from 1 pm to 3pm. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so to a charity of their choice.
