Raymond (Rocky) Herrington, beloved husband of Frieda passed away on Sunday, May 5th, at the age of 81 years. Ray was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on November 8th, 1942, to his parents Frances and Charles. He had 11 eleven siblings. Ray was a member of the PPCLI for 20 years. He earned his nickname of Rocky for his boxing prowess and athleticism. He was the Canadian Army boxing bantam weight titleholder and was a contender to represent Canada in the Olympics. Ray’s service in the PPCLI took him to Germany where he took the opportunity to travel around Europe. In his younger days Ray loved to run. In a hike for Health Fundraiser Race, Ray was first across the finish line in a 28-mile race.Ray worked at SAIT for 20 years as an assistant supervisor in the Dryland area and equipment room. Ray was inducted to the Builders Wall of Distinction.Ray earned an award from the Calgary City Police when he tipped them off about a break in and helped track down the culprits. Ray lived in McKenzie Lake for almost 40 years. He was a familiar sight in his red truck picking up bottles and scrap iron, donating the proceeds. In particular, scholarships to alumni of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre (AARC).Ray will be missed by his loving wife Frieda, his daughter Loretta, sons and numerous grandchildren, special mention of Keith, Caleb, Charlene, Ashley, and great grandchildren Gavin and Alexa.
