Brothwell

It is with profound sadness that the family of Frank announces his peaceful passing, surrounded by his family, at age 94 on Feb 22, 2025.

Frank was born in Pathlow, SK on January 4th, 1931. He was the 8th child out of 12 to Horace and Hazel Brothwell, where he and his siblings helped with the family life. As many did in this generation, Frank grew up quickly and left home at age 15 to work to support his family. A hardworking young man, he honored his father and mother and was happy for any opportunity to love and provide for his family.

Frank was a proud war veteran where he was a 1st Battalion Paratrooper with the 1st Division of the PPCLI. Once a Patricia, always a Patricia! Starting in the fall of 1951, as a 20-year-old young man, he served overseas in Korea as part of the United Nations group of soldiers for 14 months. He also visited Japan where he saw the devastation caused by the atomic bomb.

Frank and Lilian Brothwell were married in Melfort on June 4, 1955, and on August 30, 1956, their son, Tom, was born. Shortly thereafter, in October, they packed up and moved to Kemano, BC where Lil accepted a position as a Registered Nurse, and Frank became a Journeyman Millwright. On April 6th, 1961, their daughter, Leanne, joined the family.

In 1966 the family moved to Prince Rupert, BC where Frank joined the local Pulp Mill. In 1968, the family moved to Prince Albert, SK as Frank accepted a Millwright position with the Prince Albert Pulp Company. Eventually, he joined the management team with the Mill as their Maintenance and Mechanics Supervisor where he remained until his retirement.

Frank is survived by his son, Tom (Brenda) Brothwell; and daughter, Leanne (Kurt) Deutscher; grandchildren, Heather (Derek) Rhodes, Kim (Sean) Briegel, Shannon (Brody) Bautz, Lindsay (Raymond) Kenney, Heidi (David) Hulowski, Adam (Briana) Deutscher, Matt (Alyssa) Deutscher, Josh (Tina) Deutscher, Emily (Cullen) Mallet, Sam Deutscher (fiancé Bailey); great-grandchildren, Harper and Madelyne Rhodes, Jude, Eve and Will Hulowski, Finley Bautz, Owen and Nolan Briegel, Oliver and Ethan Deutscher and Ava Deutscher; his brother, Gordon Brothwell; and sister Joy Harman.

Frank was predeceased by his wife, Lilian in 2018; his parents, Horace and Hazel Brothwell; and several other brothers and sisters.

Dad was a man of quiet strength, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, resilience, and love, and found joy and fulfillment in his family, his work, his gardening and woodworking. He loved to spend time at his cabin at Candle Lake and enjoyed making cherished woodworking pieces for his children and grandchildren. He was well liked by many, a man that his children and grandchildren knew they could trust and depend on. His grandchildren called him a hero. Though life presented him with challenges, he faced them with unwavering determination and hope. He was an amazing example to his children and grandchildren. His gardening yielded many fruits and vegetables, and his family will remember his raspberry jam, and homemade lasagna with his own canned tomatoes.

In lieu of other tributes, donations in Frank’s name can be made to Rose Garden Hospice 500- 38th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6W 0A3 rosegardenhospice.ca
