“Tom” Thomas Hardy

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Tom at the age of 51 years on August 9th, 2024 at Moira Place Long Term Care Home in Tweed, Ontario. Tom’s life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family and his service to our country.

Loving son of Geraldine Hardy (nee Bigley) & the late Alfred Hardy (dec’d 2023). He was born in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and grew up in Manitouwadge, Ontario, where he developed a strong sense of duty and community. At 18, Tom enlisted in the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces. By 21, he moved to Alberta with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He valued this service highly and proudly served in Delta Company in Calgary and later the Mortar Platoon in Edmonton. While in Alberta, Tom grew very close with his uncle Howard and auntie Bernadette, and his cousins Bridgette, Angie, Jake and Adrinna. After proudly serving for over a decade, Tom returned home to continue his education. This led him to Fort McMurray, Alberta where he made many more dear friends. He showed true strength of character in his final years. He always held onto his sense of humour; no matter his prognosis or how he was feeling. He had such wit, bringing out the biggest laughs from everyone around him.

Tom is survived by his beloved son Matthew & his wife Melissa and his adoring grandchildren Arianna and Benjamin. He is also remembered fondly by his siblings; Alfie Hardy (late Debbie), Jacquelyn Howat (Graham), Nancy Hardy, and Carolyn Evans (Travis). He was deeply cherished by his nieces and nephews; Allison, Zachary, Lesley, Steven, Kayla, Kristopher, Kaldon, Joshua, Logan, and Wyatt. Blessed with a symphony of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends who felt privileged to be touched by his strength and kindness.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Paul and MaryAnn Richter, and Jody Mitchell; who helped us and Tom more than they will ever know. And to the staff of Moira Place Long Term Care Home, for their compassionate care during his time there. We are truly blessed he was in such great hands these last years. We have extreme gratitude for every organization, healthcare personnel, volunteer, friend, or family member who helped him throughout his last years. Every visit, phone call, ride, or even tech support meant so much to him and to us!

Tommy will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his dedication to family, country, and his unwavering spirit.

Private services entrusted to Rushnell Funeral Home, Madoc (613-473-2833). If desired, memorial donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 363 Madoc would be greatly appreciated by the family.
