BUTLER, Wayne Curtis, 75, of Shelburne, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Roseway Hospital with Family by his side. Born August 31, 1948, in Sandy Point, he was the son of the late Curtis and Mary (Harrison) Butler.
Wayne grew up in Jordan Ferry. Following his school years, in 1966 he enlisted in the military, where he started his career in the Black Watch/PPCLI. Wayne’s military career also included serving in Cypress and as a member the Regimental Police. After leaving the military he returned home and was employed with Irving Oil, CFS Shelburne as a fire fighter, Deschamp and Jackson Boat Shop and EW Holmes Fisheries. Wayne even came out of retirement to assist at Seaway Fabrications Limited.
Wayne was a dedicated Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63, having been a member for 50 plus years, several years of which he held, proudly, the title of President. He was also a dedicated volunteer of the Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD), having committed over 16 years of service for our community. Wayne spent 29 years as a Mason with the Albert Lodge 30, Shelburne. During his time with the Masons, he held Master Lodge in 2002, and District Grand Chaplain in 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2013.
Wayne is survived by his loving Wife of 48 years, Winnie (Nash), Daughter Denna and Son-in-Law Tyler Harris, Granddaughters Delana Harris and Destiny Harris, Sister Brenda (Scotty) Jofre, numerous Nephews, Nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
Wayne was predeceased by his Parents, Curtis and Mary Butler, Sister Cynthia Butler-Jefferson, and Sister Carolyn (Butler) Smith.
Arrangements are under the care of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. A service will take place from Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, 58 Bulkley Street, Shelburne on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 2:30 pm. Family flowers only.
Donations in his memory can be made to the SVFD, Roseway Hospital Charitable Foundation, Masonic Lodge (Albert Lodge 30), or a charity of your choice.
